ABOUT DISTRICT

The district of Soreng has been created along with Pakyong district on December 13, 2021 vide notification number 26/L&PAD/2021. Before this, Soreng was a subdivision under the erstwhile West district. The erstwhile West district has now been divided into two districts viz; Gyalshing and Soreng. Soreng district lies in the south-west corner of the State of Sikkim. It shares border with the State of West Bengal in the south. Soreng also shares international border with Nepal in the west. It is connected to the capital of the state, Gangtok, with metalled roads. Major towns and cities of the neighbouring state like Siliguri, Darjeeling and Kalimpong are also reachable by metalled roads from Soreng. The airports close to Soreng are Pakyong Airport in Pakyong district and Bagdogra in West Bengal. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Station in West Bengal.
