RAMIDHAM: A SACRED HAVEN OF PEACE AND NATURAL BEAUTY

Category Adventure, Natural / Scenic beauty

Nestled atop the hills above Bara Samdong in the Soreng district, Ramidham stands as a
famous religious site, drawing devotees and nature lovers alike. The name ‘Ramidham’ holds
deep significance, as ‘Rami’ means holy and blissful. Surrounded by a lush landscape filled with
vibrant rhododendron plants, chestnut trees, magnolias, and sunkhari, this sacred place offers a
serene retreat where spirituality and natural splendor blend harmoniously.
Ramidham is located about 13-14 km from Soreng and requires a connecting 2.5 km
uphill journey from the Kaluk-Soreng SPWD road at Samdong.
A significant event at Ramidham is the Saptami Puja, which is held twice a year. During
these occasions, people from far and near gather to offer prayers and seek blessings for world
peace. There are many temples, dhams, and other sacred places in and around Ramidham, each
with its own historical and spiritual significance. There is sacred pond called ‘Sakundhara,’
which, according to local belief, was created by a Sadhu’s power as there was no water available
in the area. Visitors can also witness this miraculous site and appreciate its spiritual significance.

Apart from its religious significance, Ramidham is also known for its breathtaking views. From
this hilltop sanctuary, visitors can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, one of
the world’s most majestic peaks. Furthermore, parts of Western Sikkim can be seen from this
vantage point, adding to the location’s scenic allure.
Ramidham is also an ideal place for meditation, offering a serene and peaceful environment
for those seeking inner tranquility. Additionally, the area provides opportunities for short wild
treks, allowing visitors to explore the natural beauty of the surroundings up close.
The government has also contributed significantly to the development of Ramidham,
undertaking beautification projects and constructing important structures such as the statue of the
first Limboo teacher and a traditional house, preserving the cultural heritage of the area.
For those who cherish nature’s beauty, Ramidham is a perfect spot to witness the
mesmerizing sunrise. Whether one visits Ramidham for spiritual comfort or to immerse in the
beauty of nature, the experience is bound to be enriching and memorable. It remains an example
of peace, faith, and natural greatness, inviting visitors to embrace its sacred charm.
