PHUNTSOK CHOELING MONASTERY

The monastery is situated in Sribadam and is one of the Kagyupa monastery of Sikkim.
According to the locals the were no monasteries in the area. So during 1962 people of Sribadam
came up with the new monastery. A lady named Gamji Bhuita donated around 1 acres of land the
monastery. Futher, around 1976 a monk named Losel Dawa build a small shrine where peole
started offering prayers under his guidence. Lam Chime Rigdzin from Ralong, South Sikkim
visited the monastery and offered wang and teachings to the devotees. Of which the devotees
look upon him as the spiritual master. In 1990, a new committee was formed naming Lam Chime
as their President to look after the welfare of the monastery. The monastery is also one of the
meditation centre and is also know for healing people from sickness through religious prcatices.
At present the monastery in functioning under the guidence of H.E. Tukchok Tulku Rimpoche.
The monastary is about 5 minutes walk way from Sribadam.

LOCAL EVENTS & FESTIVALS:
During the festival of Lhabab Duchen, which is celebrated in the 22nd day of the 9th month of the
Tibetan lunar calendar. The festival symbolizes the Descent of Buddha from heaven of the thirtythree gods after visiting his mothers. Monks perform prayer ceremonies in the monastery and
people visit the monastery to seek blessings during the ceremony.
